THE LABOR DAY GRILL

There is a law in the United States that mandates the preparation of grilled foods on Labor Day - look it up if you don’t believe me.

Most folks opt for the easy stuff: hamburgers and hot dogs. It’s what we do to celebrate most long holiday weekends here at Chez Elisson, too... but not this time. For that, you can thank the geniuses at Publix who decided to run a weekend-long sale on honkin’ big ribeye steaks. Presented for your delectation, our Labor Day Menu...

Insalata Caprese
Grilled bone-in ribeye steaks
Fregola, toasted pine nuts and cacao nibs
Cilantro salad, pickled red onions and Fresno peppers
Broccolini, piment d’espelette
Sautéed wild mushrooms, smoked paprika
J. Lohr Pasa Robles merlot, 2006
Coffee

A beautiful end to a beautiful weekend. Hope yours was fun!

Sh*t; I was hoping for caca nibs, given that great hunk you had in the photo a couple of posts ago. BTW, was that in a case with the stinky cheeses?

@Houston Steve - Yeah, I noticed that the label said "cheese," too... and what better place to keep caca than with stinky cheese? But actually, the Mexicano Caca(o) was, strangely enough, stored alongside the spices.

Would "caca nibs" be a synonym for "bupkis"? Inquiring minds want to know.
