TEE SHOT

The Judge

The New Year stretches before me
Like a fairway at a golf course.
Surprises await:
Some good, some not so good.
Will my tee shot be errant or true?
Will I stroke my putts smoothly?
Will my ball find the short grass,
Or bury itself deep within a bunker,
Lose itself in the woods,
Or drown in the depths?

When I step up to the tee,
I have no idea what will happen.
I have only experience to guide me,
Along with vague knowledge of the laws of probability.
But nevertheless,
I needs must swing away.

  1. Is that last line a sly reference to Mel Gibson and M. Night Shyamalan's "Signs"?

May the new year give you all the mulligans you need.
