The Lament of the Poet Laureate
Free verse is a curse
And rhyme is a crime
A lim’rick’s beneath all contempt
A paean’s obscaean
And a haiku, I pooh-pooh
A sonnet is somewhat unkempt
The tanka is ranka
Than an ode in a commode
And an elegy makes me verklempt
The epic’s dyspeptic
A hymn makes my head swim
Writing poetry don’t pay the rent
